Move outside your comfort zone?
We are constantly bombarded with the message to move outside of our comfort zones, but what does that mean? How far out of comfort zone should we go? How do we begin that shift? People love to give suggestions and drop “knowledge” and phrases without any concrete examples or how to’s. And I’m not going to either! JK, lol. I don’t have all the answers but I’m going to give some suggestions on where to start.
- Begin by gaining awareness into yourself and your life. How? Try journaling. Engage in self reflection. Track your day to day activities and moods. There are plenty of apps that assist you with mood tracking. (Mood track Diary and Daylio are 2 good mood tracking apps) How are you spending your time? Do you feel fulfilled? Do you feel that you could create change in your life? Are you even ready to create change in your life? Set aside some time, find a quiet space, and get all existential. Get to know you and your life’s purpose and meaning.
- Know yourself a little better now? Use some imagery and imagination to conjure up and image/vision for yourself and what you want your life to look like. How do you dress?, wear your hair?, where do you live?, etc. get as specific as possible because it helps when it comes down to coming up with a plan and setting goals.
- No goal is to small and all small goals will add up to your bigger overall goal.
- Once all that is done you can begin to decide how far out of your comfort zone you will need to travel in order to achieve your goals. Hopefully you will have a more detailed picture of what you need to do to get what you desire. And most importantly that you have a better understanding of yourself, who you are, and what you want to be in this life.
Doing some or all of these things can/will help you to create change in your life; whether it be big or small change. It’s all about your willingness, attitude, and determination. I’m always interested in feedback so if you try any of this out let me know how it goes!
